How do I have unclaimed funds?

When a business, the government, or other entity owes you money due to overpayment, invoiced payments, insurance payments, or from being a beneficiary of a life insurance policy they cannot keep the money if they cannot locate you or the check is not cashed. The must transfer it to the State of California for safekeeping. The state currently is holding billions of dollars of unclaimed funds.

  • It is estimated 1 and 10 Californians have unclaimed funds being held by the State of California.

  • Depending on the circumstances, the funds may be difficult to retrieve on your own.

Family members who passed away

may have unclaimed funds due to you.

When someone passes away, a lot happens. They have bank accounts, stocks, bonds, paychecks owed to them, and many other forms of potential payout. Often times, the family does not know about these expected funds. This causes the funds to be lost in the chaos of the years following the death of the family member. If your husband/wife or parent passed away - they may have funds being held by the government that you are entitled to.
